Taryn & I went to Mexico for our first mission trip. It was a wonderful and eyeopening experience for both of us. I wanted to share a few photos.

These are my girls waiting for us to leave early Saturday morning.

I roomed with the three on the left. They have a ton of energy!

Here's a pic of the entire group that went.

Well, I guess one of the leaders hadn't made it into the picture yet.

We went to Piedras Negras, which is just across the border from Eagle Pass, TX. We partner with Primeria Iglesia Baptista in Piedras, so our churches work together on a regular basis. This is the 3rd time our high school AWANA club has made this trip.

The local church asks thier members to hold "house church" for a midweek time of fellowship in thier individual neighborhoods. One of their members who lives in the colonies neighborhood had agreed to host a house church. So, what we do is go into that neighborhood and invite people to come to her home for a vacation bible school. We attract attention, and kids want to come and see what's going on.

We also do light construction, which this time was to build a new house for the midweek service. There was already a concrete slab poured, and we were to get a structure up and a roof on in two mornings work time.

This is the home that will be replaced by our project.

We had never seen anything like this before.  People actually living in a cardboard house.  It was an eye opening experience for many of us.  We realize how wealthy we are in the US, and we can appreciate it so much more.  It's the kind of thing that you cannot really explain.  You have to go there and experience it first hand to understand the poverty.

to be continued. . . . . .
