Well, Gillwildflower asked how you build a house in two mornings...  and this is how it happened.  The slab was already poured when we arrived.   The guys worked longer than the two mornings that were scheduled, working some in the afternoon too, and they didn't actually finish the house, but were able to get it framed up and put a roof on top, which was what we were supposed to accomplish.

This is what it looked like at 9:38 am on day one.

You can see that they came back after lunch and finished up our portion of the project on day 2.  I am amazed what can be done when you have God working through you.  Phil 4:13 I  can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Taryn & I went to Mexico for our first mission trip. It was a wonderful and eyeopening experience for both of us. I wanted to share a few photos.

These are my girls waiting for us to leave early Saturday morning.

I roomed with the three on the left. They have a ton of energy!

Here's a pic of the entire group that went.

Well, I guess one of the leaders hadn't made it into the picture yet.

We went to Piedras Negras, which is just across the border from Eagle Pass, TX. We partner with Primeria Iglesia Baptista in Piedras, so our churches work together on a regular basis. This is the 3rd time our high school AWANA club has made this trip.

The local church asks thier members to hold "house church" for a midweek time of fellowship in thier individual neighborhoods. One of their members who lives in the colonies neighborhood had agreed to host a house church. So, what we do is go into that neighborhood and invite people to come to her home for a vacation bible school. We attract attention, and kids want to come and see what's going on.

We also do light construction, which this time was to build a new house for the midweek service. There was already a concrete slab poured, and we were to get a structure up and a roof on in two mornings work time.

This is the home that will be replaced by our project.

We had never seen anything like this before.  People actually living in a cardboard house.  It was an eye opening experience for many of us.  We realize how wealthy we are in the US, and we can appreciate it so much more.  It's the kind of thing that you cannot really explain.  You have to go there and experience it first hand to understand the poverty.

to be continued. . . . . .

So, I finally got back on track with the rr. Jan's top will go out in tommorrows mail. yippie! I think it looks pretty nice. Polly's on the other hand, well that is a different story. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. Julia went and added the perfect border to it. How will I ever add something that will compliment it? oh me, oh my, and a good grief for charlie brown and co.

here's a pic I took over the weekend. this is my favorite one of the bunch.

Oh my Cloye!!!

I bet you are freaking out, since you haven't gotten Barb's block from me.  I am so sorry.  We went out of town last weekend, then my husband's gramma died, so we have been furiously busy with everything but normal life.  I will be sending your package out soon.  I promise!

Sachse High School Band awarded 2nd place in Carrollton marching contest!!

Saturday was hot and tiring, but it makes all of the work worthwhile, when you get validated with a trophy win.  We didn't place first, but 2nd was awesome!  We saw very little of the competition, but what we saw was impressive.  Our cross town rivals placed 6th, so placing higher than them was victory enough for most of the kids, getting 2nd was the icing on the cake!

Here are a couple of pictures of the performance.  I was on the sidelines helping out, so you can't see much from these pics, oh well!

This is Jeremiah, who I met Saturday.  I love his hair.  I wish I had those curls, so I could grow an afro!  Sweet!  He is an interesting kid to talk to.  I enjoyed hearing his take on life.  Hopefully I will have more opportunities to talk to him.

This is Nick, one of the trumpet players I met while riding on the trumpet bus. The bus was filled with mostly boys, and they were stinky, but quite well behaved.
